I really like the customization options and flexibility, but unless you really need the phone tethering and the fitness options, I don’t like the idea of having another device to recharge.
I love automatic watches since they take advantage of our regular movements to keep running. Even then, quartz watches will make a battery last years.
Also, longevity is another thing - most watches can be serviced but when smart watches get old, they just become obsolete. Classic watches will always function for their main purpose - telling time at a glance. I don’t have fancy watches, but it’s nice to know that they can be worn by another generation if they’re taken care of.
Then again, I do still want a smart watch but not at the price that companies are asking for.

I stick with automatic Swiss movement. No battery, no OS, nothing to pair with.

I got a deal I couldn’t pass up on a Samsung V3 frontier. The stainless one was absolutely gorgeous however, not worth the extra cost. I thought I would absolutely hate it, but it’s really fun. Not more useful than an actual watch, but with the way you interact with it, you feel like you’re in a spy movie.

This is the main reason why I want one, but I can’t justify the cost, especially since I need to get a new phone before anything else.
I also love the Goldeneye 64 theme that’s available on watches which looks like the game. This alone is a very enticing feature...

It’s very funny that you posted that because I’ve been looking at getting a cheap Casio. Although it’s not the long-lasting mechanical watch that I love, you stick a coin battery motherfucker in this thing it’ll probably go for a decade, plus it has a calculator.
I want the one that’s a world clock:

I just want a smartwatch that banks 90% of its guts on a massive battery, doesn’t have a fitness tracker or anything else - just a clock and a way to push text messages and other important notifications to my wrist if they’re super important.

I contemplated getting a smart watch for a while, but as a watch collector (own 18), I just can’t really justify buying one.

I know what you’re saying; at work, I tend to take my watch off because it feels strange when I’m at the keyboard all day. Otherwise, I find a watch to be non-intrusive, although I tend not to like ones with metal bands, nor do I like really large, heavy watches. Slim, uncomplicated ones with leather bands are my preference.

I pretty much want this, plus media/Spotify controls.
I think leaving out things like NFC/GPS/heartrate monitor will drop the price of smartwatches down to a point where it’d be a decent buy to us.

I like the media controls while driving. I’d say that’s what I use the most other than having it act as a watch.

As a Pebble user for the better part of 4 years, I’ve yet to find a suitable replacement. So I’ve gone back to looking at chronos for the time being.
With Pebble support winding down officially at the end of June, the Fitbit product just isnt nearly as appealing.

I have like two expensive watches and a G-Shock that I don’t wear anymore, I don’t think they’re worth it. Just a dumb gimmick that says “Hey rob me.”

both:
Personally, I wear a Rolex because I like traditional watches. I also want to be able to put my phone down and disconnect from the word. A lot harder if you’ve got something that dings strapped to your wrist.

I got a Pebble 2 for $70 a few weeks ago and I’ve liked it. It was a total what-the-hell-why-not sort of purchase for me. I was skeptical of smart watches at first but it’s really grown on me.
The functionality extends beyond just getting notifications. I can control my music from across the room. I can silence calls without pulling my phone out. I can answer texts with voice-to-text. If I’m navigating with google maps while driving, the directions pop up on my watch. It has an e-ink display that lasts a week.
Overall a good purchase. I don’t regret it.

Plus there’s a star trek watch face. That alone is enough of a selling point.

Martian makes an affordable hybrid smartwatch that combines a traditional watchface and a notification screen.

I wouldn’t have bought one for myself, but my wife and kids thought it would be a great idea for me to have one. So, they found a Samsung S3 Frontier and gave it to me for Christmas. I thought it would be gimmicky, and it is, but I’ve found that it’s a lot of fun. If Bluetooth and WiFi are off, it will last several days between charges. If they are on, then I get notifications when my phone rings, an e-mail comes in, or when someone texts me. This is great because I often miss those things when my phone is in my pocket.
I still love my other watches, but I find that the S3 has become my daily wear.

I usually run either PipBoy or a simple blue watch face. When I first got it, I tried out a variety of faces.

I need to go see if there’s any semi stylish calc watches. Having one actually seems really handy, since I always forget my phone has a calc.

I’ve had a look at that one, I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it. The other colorways have the bottom pips, but not the black one... which is weird.
